Wish there were more small group socials.

Advice

Take initiative to jump on projects or network with people. Everyone is always open to sharing their experience and show you the projects they are working on! Very cool to see how different parts of such a large corporation work together.

What I liked

The internship leaders really tried to get interns involved as much as possible in a virtual environment. You were pushed to set up many networking events as well as attend intern events as well. You get exposed to all the different areas of the department you work in, depending on your manager, but for the most part you truly get a wide grasp on the corporate experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to work in person rather than virtually.

Advice

Make sure to keep an open mind. Corporate America is not what you would think it is. Also, take it all in as it goes. When you realize a company culturally fits you, its good to align those feelings for a full time job.

What I liked

I enjoyed the fast-paced environment and the self-management ability granted by supervisors to employees. There was always a new technique, strategy or application to learn each day so we never remain stagnant as a worker.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more communication between national, district, and store leadership goals; there was a lack of understanding between people who were higher-up on the managerial hierarchy and regular associates who had only just started. Similarly, there weren't many opportunities for levelling up and gaining new job responsibilities, though that may have been more a result of my part-time status than anything else. I also wish there had been more consideration for the circumstances of individuals in regards to scheduling. There are not many occasions in which I would know two weeks ahead of time of minor family circumstances that require my attention. I also wish there had been more employee training with new hires. When I first started on the job, I found it very confusing wandering around the store and finding items that needed to be picked was both an impossible and beyond arduous task. Not being able to find things for half an hour only for them to be discovered in a completely different area than where you were trained to look is incredibly frustrating.

Advice

For new hires, it would be in your best interest to take on at least one or two morning shifts so you can observe other associates and ask for their tips and tricks for sales or finding product. Also explore the devices and employee toolkits at your disposal. Spending a lot of time on the homepage going through the links and looking through your little phone device will help you in discovering some useful tips and tricks that'll make your job significantly more manageable!
