What I liked
I loved how welcoming the environment was. There were numerous occasions where I would get a job and I always felt uncomfortable, anxious and just out of place. However, Barnes and Nobles and my coworkers are absolutely amazing. We work together and listen to each other and get things done properly.
What I wish was different
There's nothing I would change or wish was different. Everything is fine just the way it is.
Advice
Don't feel intimidated about starting a new job, especially one you've been wanting to work for years

What I wish was different
They push you to sell memberships and a majority of people who would buy them already have them.
Advice
Go into it ready to meet a lot of different types of people, especially if you work at a store that is in a high traffic area. And bring a book or two you know they carry for each genre to keep on hand as recommendations when you're working the floor.

What I liked
You’re able to build up into the job position you want. Coworkers are always able to help you if you need it.
What I wish was different
Since it is a semester type where you begin working as a temporary you must reapply after it has been determined you are going to remain there as an employee
Advice
Join as a temporary and see if you enjoy the atmosphere. If you have had previous experience state that and ask about a specific job opening you’re interested in. Do research on what other employees are also getting paid for that are in your same area and job position and don’t be afraid to state those facts.

What I liked
I loved being able to put books into people's homes since it's considered a "dying breed". I also just loved to be surrounded by books since I do most of my reading over the summer.
What I wish was different
I wish it was better pay. I was technically only part-time but working full-time hours so that was kind of ridiculous.

What I liked
Surrounded by so many books; you are encouraged to also know a lot of books so you can help customers so it is a nice reading-encouraged environment.
What I wish was different
More freedom on shifts to walk through the store and assist as needed; also wish management was more receptive to issues going on between workers.
Advice
It is just a part-time job; it has great discount perks that can be applied to books and the Starbucks but it is customer service and sales-driven by a large corporation. Keep in mind that in the end, sales are the bottom line for them and you are just a body for that. You are replaceable.
