What I liked

I enjoyed being able to support and represent the indigenous people and tribes without areas.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to work more!

Advice

I learned to be experimental and look for new ways to create. Often people don't know what they want and bringing new ideas is a good way to start a base to build on.

Library Assistant

August 2018 • Reno, NV

What I liked

Loved being able to check equipment out from the University, the equipment is amazing and the best part is that it’s free for students.

What I wish was different

I wish we were making more money through the university, $8.50 an hour minimum wage doesn’t pay anyone’s bills and they cut out hours over summer. Not worth the time ...

Advice

It’s a great way to learn about camera, computer, audio and other technological equipment. Getting involved is important because many in the future you’ll be able to use your knowledge when using whatever equipment you have !

Student Teacher

July 2019 • Reno, NV

What I liked

I was taking classes at the same time I was working and it's definitely hard to balance, but I really enjoy being able to bond with the kids at the daycare I work with on campus under the CFRC. It's a great learning experience not only with kids but how to communicate better with other people as well.

What I wish was different

I wish I wasn't taking a class over summer at the same time but I'm glad to have gotten it all over with.

Advice

Only do this job if you really care about the kids and want to put the effort into getting to know them. It's going to be hard and you're going to be frustrated at first, but once you learn about each kid and you form that bond, you wouldn't want to leave.

Athletics Marketing Intern

August 2019 • Reno, NV

What I liked

I really enjoy working in athletics. As someone that enjoys sports, this is an absolute treat. Not only do I get to watch the game but also being able to be on the sidelines and giving fans the best time at the game. It is always fun when I run into the coaches and being able to speak with them and really being almost a part of the team. It is amazing to see how many responsibilities we are tasked with when it comes to gameday, and every sport is different with the responsibilities.

What I wish was different

There is nothing that I wish would be different.

Advice

Always get involved and even though there is no pay, give every ounce of energy and effort because you never know what will happen in the future. Put that extra time in and not only do what you are supposed to do but give the helping hand whenever you can. Don't be afraid to combine something you like with a career you want to be in. By combining sports and marketing, I have been very grateful for this opportunity.

Orientation Guide

May - September 2018 • Reno, NV

What I liked

Everything. I was given housing, food, and compensation. I loved working with freshman students and welcoming them to the university through a number of workshops, small group conversations, and presentations.

What I wish was different

The hours were very intensive, yet I don't regret anything. The hours have to be long to provide the best orientation experience for the freshman students.

Advice

Be ready to be stressed and tired. The job can be hard when you are sick or having a bad day. This is the first time the freshman truly see the school and get immersed in what the university is all about so, even on the worst days, you must keep a happy, energetic personality.
