Getting to work on campus is the a very good experience because everyone is very nice and understandable when it comes to working with you and knowing school comes first.

I enjoyed getting to interact with professors at UNR and gained skills in an ecology lab

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more opportunities to do essential biology experiment procedures, like gel electrophoresis and PCR.

Advice

When entering your first lab position, many times, you will start out as a volunteer and do a lot of the tasks noone else wants to do (i.e. dishwashing and "scut" work). However, if you stick with it, you will advance to being trusted with more duties and even potentially a paid position.

What I liked

They allowed you to work up to 40 hours in the summer which was really nice. The people there are amazing and it really seems like a family !

I wish I had worked more than I did this summer.

Advice

Get to know the full time staff. They are great resources for you to have and can really help you if you just talk to then. Also get to know your coworkers, because they can make work fun for you and time flies when you're having fun.
