Job Description

The Internship and Career Center (ICC) provides services that equip UC Davis students and recent alumni to develop skills, refine career goals and develop networks in a professional work environment through internships and other opportunities. ICC student staff receive training in career development and career advising and are involved in a variety of activities, some virtual, under the direction of ICC professional staff.

As part of the Internship and Career Center (ICC), the Career Recruiting Program (CRP) provides support to students seeking positions, and employers seeking UC Davis students as interns and employees through the On-Campus Recruiting Program (OCR) in Handshake. CRP design, marketing, and employer relations interns will gain valuable workplace skills prior to graduation. 

This position will be responsible for designing and implementing ICC event and programmatic outreach through social media, email and other digital and print means. CRP design and marketing interns receive training in Handshake and OCR procedures. Interns are involved in a variety of activities under the direction of professional staff at the Career Recruiting Program. 

ENVIRONMENT

This position is expected to work in person in South Hall for the academic school year. This may change depending on UC Davis Campus guidelines for employees. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Develop ICC marketing materials for print, web and social media, using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Work within UC Davis brand guidelines as laid out in the UC Davis Brand Communications Guide, and the UC Davis Internship and Career Center Brand Guidelines
  • Work within a team to develop marketing strategies for social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Promote career and internship opportunities to UC Davis students through online and print strategies, as noted above.
  • Support employers visiting UC Davis for interviews, information sessions, career fairs and other ICC/CRP services.
  • Navigate the ICC’s website and Handshake (training will be provided).
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with employers, both verbally in person and on the phone, as well as written via email.
  • Support students in their career development by offering assistance with the OCR process.
  • Assist CRP with program area events and special projects.
  • Provide support to the ICC Events Coordinator, specifically, but not limited to, the marketing, organization and implementation of career fairs and the corresponding employer receptions. 
  • Assist with special projects to support program areas as needed, this may include receptionist responsibilities which involve customer service skills.
  • Send professional correspondence (email) on behalf of the ICC.
  • Perform basic clerical duties.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions.
  • Be effective and efficient with office hour time scheduled between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • Attend mandatory spring and fall training sessions, weekly staff meetings and ongoing quarterly training.
  • Must maintain student & alumni confidentiality per FERPA guidelines.

CRP Interns will gain:

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be a registered and enrolled UC Davis undergraduate student through at least June 2025 (must have completed at least one year at UC Davis by start of work).
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, 
  • Knowledge of campus resources with ability to reference on social media and deliverables
  • Previous customer service, peer advising, or office experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Knowledgeable about the ICC’s website
  • Internship experience preferred and familiarity with the ICC and the Career Recruiting Program and On-Campus Recruiting 
  • Ability to demonstrate self-motivation, creativity, innovation, and initiative
  • Commitment through the end of the current academic year (through June 2025) with the possibility of continuing through the next academic year through June 2026.
  • If chosen for interview, a portfolio will be requested

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Premiere or Final Cut Pro
  • Have taken DES 115 (Typography) and DES 116 (Visual Communications)
  • Interest in Business, Marketing, Statistics, Communication
  • Experience with infographics 
  • Experience managing social media accounts
  • Experience with Box, Google Suite, project management tools (Asana)
  • Experience working within brand guidelines

Employment Hours: 

Usual schedule is 8-10 hours/week (flexible around class schedule).  May include occasional evening or weekend hours discussed in advance.

Pay Rate: $16.50 / hr

MANDATORY PAID TRAINING SESSIONS:

 (1) Must attend Spring Training:

  • Must be available for up to 15 hours of paid training during Spring Quarter, including a mandatory training session on April 3, 2024. Training hours will be scheduled throughout the Spring Quarter and will be a combination of asynchronous and scheduled sessions.

(2) Must attend Fall Training:

  • Must be available in person the week of September 16-20, 2024 for mandatory Fall Training. Confirmation of exact times/locations will be provided during the interview process. Regular work shifts and/or welcome events start as early as September 20, 2024.

(3) Ongoing Training:

  • Student assistants must attend weekly team meetings throughout the academic year.
  • Ongoing training opportunities will be scheduled by your supervisor throughout each quarter based on ICC events, career fairs, workshops, advising hours, and program area topics.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND HOURS:

  • Commitment through the end of the current academic year (through June 2025) with the possibility of continuing through the next academic year through June 2026.
  • Usual schedule is 8-10 hours/week through the academic quarter between 8 am and 5 pm (flexible around class schedule)
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours discussed in advance
  • May have online trainings and/or shadowing opportunities in Winter and Spring 2024. 
  • Pay Rate: $16.50/ hr

  • We have both Work-Study and Non-Work-Study positions.
  • Work-Study eligibility is preferred, but not required.
