Job Title: Recreation Attendant (STDT 3)

 

Reports To: Member Services Coordinator

 

Department Summary:
As the gateway to Campus Recreation, our Member Services unit connects the UC Davis community with our extensive recreation programs and facilities. We're dedicated to making recreation accessible and affordable for students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members. Our team helps members navigate all Campus Recreation has to offer, ensuring everyone can find activities that match their interests and goals.

 

Position Summary:
The Recreation Attendant provides excellent customer service and facility supervision at the Activities and Recreational Center (ARC). This position is responsible for managing equipment rental operations, maintaining facility cleanliness and safety, and ensuring positive member experiences through attentive service and proper enforcement of facility policies. Recreation Attendants serve as active ambassadors for Campus Recreation while supervising recreation spaces and supporting cardiovascular and strength training equipment operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Customer Service and Member Support
  • Provide high level of customer service to all Campus Recreation members
  • Maintain active, visible presence throughout the facility during shift duration
  • Respond professionally to member inquiries and concerns
  • Provide tours to guests of the Activities and Recreation Center
  • Assist members with proper equipment use and spotting techniques
  • Effectively resolve customer complaints and concerns

 

     2.  Equipment and Facility Operations

  • Manage equipment check-in/check-out process, locker rentals, and court reservations
  • Learn and demonstrate proper spotting techniques for member assistance
  • Regularly inspect machines for damaged or defective parts
  • Understand basic function, adjustment, maintenance, and injury prevention for strength and cardiovascular equipment
  • Maintain routine facility cleanliness including restocking supplies, cleaning spills and trash, and dusting surfaces
  • Keep work station clean and organized

 

     3.  Safety and Policy Enforcement

  • Enforce all facility policies, procedures, and rules
  • Maintain awareness of member safety throughout recreation spaces
  • Understand general resistance training movements including proper form, muscle groups, and exercise effectiveness
  • Assist with Emergency Action Plan (EAP) implementation as needed
  • Report safety concerns and equipment issues promptly

 

     4.  Professional Development and Administrative Duties

  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, workshops, and in-service trainings
  • Maintain professional work appearance including black athletic shorts or pants, closed-toed shoes, and nametag
  • Conduct laundry duties as necessary
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Work independently and as part of team-oriented atmosphere

  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment

 

 

Position is a mandatory reporter for known or suspected child abuse and requires that a statement acknowledging the requirement to report child abuse be signed.
