Animal Daycare Provider

May - August 2020 • Willow Grove, PA

What I liked

All the dogs I got to meet and play with. I loved caring for them

What I wish was different

The pay. I felt we weren’t paid as well as other places for the amount of work we did.

Advice

If you want to work with animals, this is the perfect beginning job. If your field does not involve animal care, this can be super overwhelming

Petcare Specialist

August 2018 • Fort Wayne, IN

What I liked

Very friendly. Feels almost like a family rather than a job.

What I wish was different

Management wouldn’t change so often and they would hire people as managers who know more about animals.

Advice

You have way more power then you would expect, and it doesn’t have the same horror stories about animal care. Petcare Specialists take extremely good care of animals and we spend a lot of money on vet visits on animals that only cost twelve dollars.

Sales Associate

June 2018 - August 2019 • Delavan, WI

What I liked

It was a really fun work environment. I was able to work with and learn things about many different animals and I also enjoyed interacting with their owners.

What I wish was different

I do wish that this job had more training of how to care for animals when I was first hired. A lot of my knowledge I gained at this job I had to research on my own because there was almost no information given to me during my training about proper animal care or about the products we sold.

Advice

Don't be afraid to branch out and try new things. I learned a lot of things while working at PetSmart, and not just things about animals. Don't be afraid to approach people and start up conversations, it helps build social skills and gets you more practice for thinking on your feet.
