Specific to the department I was in: I would say that the most important traits is that you have to be able to work independently ( and teams when needed) and knowing how to group your questions together to ask them.
Most of the time, the office was really quiet and everyone was focused on their tasks. I don't know if this was due to the time period I interned for (summer). Like perhaps they are really busy for summer and are more relaxed during other time periods? One of the other interns I worked with was really curious about everything (the processes, how the department gathered information, etc). Not that they didn't encourage curiousity, but they were being a little obnoxious about the questions they were asking. They were asking a question every 5 mins, but when we would have meetings specifically for debriefing or asking questions, they wouldn't ask any.
